Child in GetGo Car Boot? Stomper Raises Safety Concerns! #ChildSafety #RoadSafety (2026)

Imagine seeing a tiny hand pressed against the rear window of a moving car, sparking immediate concern: Could a child be trapped in the trunk? This alarming scenario was recently reported by a vigilant driver, who spotted what appeared to be a young child in the back of a GetGo Suzuki Swift along Jalan Bukit Merah. But here's where it gets controversial: Was this a harmless oversight or a dangerous breach of child safety regulations? Let’s dive in.

On December 15, between 1pm and 2pm, Stomper AT was traveling from Henderson Road to Hoy Fatt Road when traffic came to a standstill. That’s when he noticed something unsettling—a small child’s finger touching the rear glass panel of the car ahead. Given the compact design of the Suzuki Swift, he suspected the child might have been seated in the boot area. And this is the part most people miss: The rear of a hatchback like this has a limited crumple zone, which could turn a minor collision into a life-threatening situation for anyone inside.

Under Singapore’s Road Traffic Act, it’s illegal for anyone under 1.35 meters tall to be unsecured in a vehicle. Children must be properly restrained using approved child seats or booster seats with seat belts. Yet, this incident raises questions about whether such laws are being followed—or enforced.

Stomper AT, concerned for both the child’s safety and public road safety, reported the incident to GetGo and submitted video footage. However, he was told the footage wasn’t clear enough for further action. Here’s the bold question: Shouldn’t unclear evidence still warrant an investigation when a child’s safety is at stake? Or is it fair to dismiss the claim without further proof?

This story isn’t just about one car or one child—it’s a reminder of the broader responsibility we all share to protect vulnerable road users. What do you think? Is this an isolated incident, or a sign of a larger issue? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
