Barnes, a 62-year-old football icon, found himself in a difficult situation due to poor financial management and bad investments.
But here's where it gets controversial... Barnes revealed that he was caught up in a web of investments, particularly in the coffee industry in Brazil, and other ventures around the world. He explained how these investments, coupled with a large tax bill, left him in a financial bind.
"I was playing catch-up for many years," Barnes shared. "From 2017 until last year, I had been paying off debts, and finally cleared about £2 million. But then, the tax authorities wanted more, and I was left with nothing."
And this is the part most people miss... Barnes emphasized that he wanted to pay his dues, but the aggressive pursuit of the tax authorities left him with no choice but to declare bankruptcy once again.
"I see people with bankruptcies still living comfortably, but I don't have that luxury," he added. "I wanted to set an example and show that I care about people's struggles."
