A long-lost dream from Quentin Tarantino’s creative vault is finally being brought to life — and in true Tarantino fashion, it’s happening somewhere completely unexpected. After more than two decades, the missing 'Kill Bill' chapter called “Yuki’s Revenge” is officially being released, not just on the big screen, but also inside Fortnite. Yes, the cinematic and gaming worlds are crossing paths in a way few saw coming.
The new animated short, running eight minutes, will premiere digitally in Fortnite before heading to theaters as part of an exclusive limited run of “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.” This extended four-hour version weaves both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 into one cohesive narrative, adding a few long-rumored surprises.
Uma Thurman returns to her legendary role as The Bride, once again working alongside Tarantino. The duo teamed up with Epic Games to bring her performance to life through motion capture technology and Unreal Engine’s real-time rendering tools. The result? A virtual revenge saga that feels both cutting-edge and deeply nostalgic.
At a special event at his Vista Theater in Los Angeles, Tarantino recalled how the collaboration began. He thought the initial meeting with Epic Games was going to be about licensing characters for a fun Fortnite crossover. But Epic had something much more ambitious in mind. Instead of borrowing existing characters, they asked whether Tarantino had a short film — something in the eight-to-twelve-minute range — that could feature his iconic cast in an innovative new medium. Turns out, he did.
Hidden in his original draft for the first 'Kill Bill' was an entire segment that never even made it to the second version of the script — a subplot exploring Gogo Yubari’s twin sister, Yuki. As Tarantino explained, the idea was scrapped due to pacing and tonal concerns: “It was just too wild, too brutal, too much all at once.” But that creative energy, long locked away, is now being revived in a form no one imagined possible. “I figured that ship had sailed,” Tarantino admitted. “But Yuki’s been living in my imagination for over twenty years.”
Thurman thrilled fans by revealing how the motion capture process brought her character into this new digital world. Unreal Engine’s tools enabled the team to record her performance and instantly see how her expressions and movements translated into the game environment. Facial data helped refine every emotion, every glare, every strike of the sword. “It’s surreal at first,” she said. “You wear this camera rig on your head, but after a while you forget it’s there and just live in the scene.”
She also reflected on the significance of introducing 'Kill Bill' to an entirely new generation. “It’s emotional for me,” she shared. “This isn’t just a re-release — it’s a rebirth. Yuki’s story deserved to be told.”
And now, with Lionsgate reopening “The Whole Bloody Affair” in select theaters on December 5, longtime fans finally get the chance to watch the saga as it was originally intended: one continuous, relentless odyssey of vengeance. The cast lineup remains jaw-dropping — Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, Gordon Liu, David Carradine — each playing a part in The Bride’s violent journey from near death to bloody redemption.
Tarantino summed up the collaboration’s spirit with a grin: “I just want both the Kill Bill fan and the Fortnite fan to be totally effing happy.”
