Ubisoft's Cost-Cutting Measures: Massive Layoffs at The Division Studio (2026)

Ubisoft's Layoffs Extend: 55 Staff Affected at The Division Studio Massive and Ubisoft Stockholm

Ubisoft has announced that 55 jobs will be impacted as part of its ongoing cost-cutting measures, affecting The Division studio Massive and Ubisoft Stockholm. This follows an earlier voluntary redundancy scheme that didn't meet the company's reduction targets.

In a statement, Ubisoft explained that the restructuring is a strategic move, not related to individual performance. It's based on a long-term roadmap and staffing adjustments, providing clearer visibility into the studios' future needs. The company aims to sustain The Division franchise, an unannounced tech project, and the development of Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect.

Despite the layoffs, Ubisoft assures that The Division franchise development remains a priority. Work is underway on Tom Clancy's The Division 3, updates for The Division 2, and an extraction project, The Division 2: Survivors. Massive Entertainment, home to The Division's Snowdrop engine, is also exploring a separate, innovative game project.

This isn't Ubisoft's first layoff round. Last week, the company closed Ubisoft Halifax, resulting in 71 job losses. Ubisoft attributed this to streamlining efforts, unrelated to the recent unionization of 61 workers. Tom Phillips, IGN's News Editor, provides further insights into these developments.
